Help With Computer Lingo Simple Definitions

RAM (Random Access Memory): Runs All Software. This includes your Operating System (Ex. Windows XP, Vista, 7)

Hard Drive: Used for Storage of All Files

Processor: “Brain” of your computer. Conducts and Commands all actions and requests of your software’s and you.

Motherboard: Backbone of the computer. Connects all devices to each other.

Desktop: Term refers to the “Tower” which is your computer. Monitor, mouse, and keyboard is not included in this term.

LCD & CRT Monitors:
LCD (Liquid Crystal Display): Flat screen monitor used as stand-alone monitors and laptop screens.
CRT (Cathode Ray Tube): The original monitor used for computers. The big, bulky, and square like monitors.

ISP: Internet Service Provider

LAN: Local Area Network (Wired Network)

WAN: Wireless Area Network (WiFi)

Modem & Router:
Modem: Receives and sends “telephone” data signals. Found as stand-alone devices and built into a computer.
Router: Receives and sends various signals to their appropriate destination be it a computer, printer, and/or ISP. Routers are used to create LAN’s and WAN’s and also may include a modem.

I think you must have meant:


WLAN: Wireless Local Area Network


Because:
WAN stands for Wide Area Network


Obviously not a big deal but it could cause some confusion to some folks I would think! Thanks for the list!
