you have absolutely lost your mind. I know the kid personally and yes, he does throw harder than 85 and there are quite a few "PO"'s in Paulding County. Ask those who play at South Paulding.
Edited to add.............. I gunned him personally.

You may need to have your gun 'calibrated". Reliable sources say 77 tops on fastball from an accurate gun. But, that wouldn't matter. If he can throw strikes and change speeds, he will do well.

The gun is calibrated daily using a tuning fork ( the most reliable way to calibrate a good gun, btw). He throws strikes and his change up is usually minus 12 of his fastball speed. 77 tops on an accurate gun?? Hardly!! They are good up to around 93 or 94 with a good one.

I am glad you were there and can tell me what he said to both my son and I. You can't cut a kid just because he didn't play summer ball. They clocked him at tryouts but guess what, he asked what he was throwing and they wouldn't tell him. They told others though. I am certain he throws atleast 85 or else he wouldn't have made a college roster. (And don't believe me if you don't want to. No reason to sign at the school or have it announced at awards day) And guess what, he is still getting his shoulder back in shape after having his collar bone plated back together. So he will only get stronger and throw harder. And yes, his best friend had a spot as a pitcher only and so did others. His best friend walked the same 4 kids and got hit hard by the same 3 kids that my son got out at tryouts. But his friend made it and not him. Don't freaking sit here and say it is all about talent that makes the team. It ain't.
I spoke with Mr. Musgrove about allowing a kid to come to tryouts, sit and make the team all without not being able to pass a physical. I asked how is and he said, the coaches can make exceptions for kids if they want. I explained to him that can't be as it is required by GHSA that one must pass a physical to tryout, play, etc for any sport. He again said and I quote, "We are not required to follow those rules." What a freaking idiot. Next day the kid was cut from the roster. Guess they rethought it. East thinks they can do what ever the hell they want.

Guess what- they did cut a kid that can throw 85+ and stands 6'5" tall. Tell Coach Boyd he needs to get a new job. By the way, what are his qualifications? No one seems to want to answer that. Or how about his pitching coach? By they way- his best friend barely throws 70.

Maybe his friend had a more pleasant mother to have around the program.

Re read the post. I am not mad about any kid that got cut. They knew they added him illegally and had to cut him. Or else GHSA would be crawling up their butts. Just letting you know that there are other pitchers only and I know one who doesn't throw 70 but he still made the team as a pitcher only at East.

From what I read, Coach Boyd was honored at the Georgia Dugout Club (these are high school coaches by the way) for having more than 300 wins. Seems as if I heard he played college ball in Alabama back in the day as well. Pitching coach? If you look it up, EP is always 1 or 2 in the region for ERA (Earned Run Average). I would say that was pretty good coaching by their pitching coach.
Let us know when y'all play again and I will be glad to bring 2 different radar guns to shoot so we can at least have an average of the two. Sound fair?

But did the pitching coach play ball anywhere? Was he a pitcher? Just asking since I couldn't find it anywhere.

Unless you know and where there when the conversation took place, no one can say he didn't say it.

Summer ball allows the program to continue if no one played summer ball the program would be broke and that is really inconvienent when you need lots of expensive maintanence, uniform replacement, equipment. the list goes on and on. WE HAVE TO PAY FOR THE PROGRAM TO CONTINUE. WHAT PART OF THAT ARE YOU HAVING TROUBLE UNDERSTANDING. FOR HEAVENS SAKE. LISTEN TO SOMEONE ELSE BESIDES YOURSELF YELLING AND BLAMING.

The line drives that were hit, were the kids at their positions? Where was the coach hitting from? The reason I ask, assuming the kids are at their positions and the coach was hitting at the plate, if my kid can't stop the ball, he don't need to be out there.. So unless the coach was on top of the mound hitting them, I don't see an issue..
This is big boy ball.. not daddy ball..
Melnsid, I know you personally and respect you. So please don't take this as a personal shot to any of your posts.. Just curious on how things actually went down.
Like I said before, my oldest boy is playing on the JV summer team. It wasn't presented to us as mandatory, but he is absolutely going to participate to get the experience and learn and get noticed..

As far as the summer thing goes, if a child is injured or MUST work during the summer how in the hell can the coach cut him in the Spring because of it?? He did attend all other fundraising (which again isn't suppose to be mandatory). So from what all others have said, it is mandatory. You must pay the fee to play summer as it is what pays for the program. Then let all students know that..don't pretend it isn't and tell a kid he was cut because he didn't play in the summer.
I stated a fact about my son receiving a scholarship. I also stated the reason he was told he didn't make the team. Not that he wasn't good enough but he didn't raise the funds by playing in the summer. Nothing more until one keeps on. By playing elsewhere this past summer, got my son to where he is going now. Should he have choosen to play summer ball for the school, he would have nothing. So things happen for a reason. I can say for sure that for my youngest, high school ball is out of the question (that is if he still is playing by then)
You know I respect you as well. My husband and I would have really loved for you to have coached the youngest one year
I deleted part of my post- because it really doesn't matter anymore

Who is South Paulding's New Coach now that he is leaving for Alexander? Rumor has it Boyd is transfering! jk on Boyd but seriously who is the new coach going to be? Had to do the JK because I didn't want anyone to have a heart attack.
MJF - quit kissing boyd's butt... you have already done enough to get your son to play. He literally dropped 3 balls thrown to him this year chest level, imo that is terrible. Not the mention he missed a ball thrown to him in the North Paulding Game that pretty much cost us the game. No error and it's a 1, 2, 3 inning. not to mention the regular errors he made. All kids make errors but then again between SS and 2B anyone would look like low numbers. 47 errors on the season was a joke. NO WAY THATS TRUE! SS at the beginning of the year had 18 errors in 5 game span. Heck he had 3 in one play believe it or not. He is a very good 2B though and should have been there all year. We have the best defensive 3B and 2B in Paulding County the next 2 seasons, no doubt. Now if we can find a SS because the current one can't get the ball there on the fly. Problem is will some of these players even play? I know some players have decided to focus on Travel Ball and School Football only because the coaching is so bad. It's going to be a tough year to watch baseball next year.... I'm coming in with LOW expectations.
To the SCREEN NAME that talked about ERA at EP. Let's take a minute and think about who he was HAND fed the last 4 years and other coaches begging for... Zach Wheeler? That is a SUB 1 ERA for 2 years, what was he picked? 6 or 7th in the first round in the MLB draft? Bobby Rednour was a stud his junior year not so much his senior year. Hayden Petitta this past season was one of the best. 3-2 record is sad and pathetic, ERRORS... tough to strike out everyone. Not to mention goinging back to my original post A NIGERIAN GOAT FARMER(sonicson) is calling pitches... could you imagine with someone knowledgable was doing it?
FYI You know you are a bad coach when players don't want to come back and help out or hang around.
To the SCREEN NAME about fundraising... there is over 40K in the baseball account already. Why do you need that much money in reserve? Fundraising all the time is a joke. Fundraise what you need for the season and be done. TO MJF I think that is more than enough for the program to continue.
Now on one other side note and JOKE a Freshman won Pitcher of the year at EP helps when you are already on the Dugout Club Roster before Tryouts even happen I guess or that he threw only against the weakest teams in the county and non conference games. Talk about setting up a player for success! Let me think Pitcher of the year goes to a kid who pitches against bad teams and has an 2.00 ERA or a guy who pitches ALL the big games and has a 3.00 ERA and you hung out to dry a few time because you were to dumb to not have anyone warming up?
To the SCREEN NAME that your kid got cut. I think it's horrible what EP did. You can never have enough PO on a baseball team, especially if that is what he wanted to be. BUT talking to numerous players that play for EP and new your son that found it hard to believe he was topping out that high on the radar. Then again kids do get stronger and have better mechanics and are able to throw harder. Just photo copy the letter of intent cross of the personal info and post it on here... it will shut the doubters up.
BOOM..... BOOMHOWER OUT!

RUN, RUN FAR AWAY FROM EAST PAULDING! Unless coach leaves...
For the record it wasn't Boyd hitting line drives it was some younger coach that coaches first base. He was upset that they lost and then a ball was thrown off target and almost hit him so he decided to hit the ball as hard as he possibly could at the first basemen. One got hit directly in Knee and had to sit out a few days because of the swelling. He apologized to them because of immaturity. Atleast he apologized.
That isn't even the worst part! The worst is that a kid who they have pitching JV games and sitting on the Varsity Bench when the JV isn't playing, who just threw 100 pitches the night before (side note: what coach allows a high school player much less a 15 year old throw that many in a meaningless JV game... a bad one!) Well anyways his arm hurt and they were making him throw the ball from first to third as hard as he could or he was going to get in trouble... sure enough he hurts his arm and has to sit out several weeks.
Also, the coaches think they are better than other instructors.... don't tell them you learned something another way because you will be chastized for it! We all know that all players have different approaches to hitting and succeed differently and need tweaking every now and then.
As far as the running thing. I agree with punishment MAYBE a foul pole but 10? Get real... it really gets the young players out of their game because all they think about is not striking out looking. They go up there swinging at bad pitches early in count because they don't want to have 2 strikes. There goes sitting back and waiting for a ptich and really giving it a ride.
They have no credentials.... ZERO and someone wrote something about Alabama college? I find it hard to believe and would love to see some kind of proof of it...
Good Luck in Summer Ball this summer.... Travel Ball you will see more benefit. Play that first and then if your son is off he can just play in the games he's available.

Great post all the way around. Like I said before he has no clue how fast he was throwing that day at tryouts, they would not tell him. I do know this to be fact though. He pitched to 7 batters (7 of the better hitters). He gave up 1 bloop hit over 1st base. All other 6 were outs, with I believe 2 or 3 strikeouts. No other pitcher did that at tryouts. His best friend gave up 4 walks and 3 hard hits, but he made it as a pitcher only. Hmmm?? And I do know for a FACT that boy does not throw harder the 70mph. And before anyone thinks I am putting that child down, I AM NOT. I am just stating the facts.
To WHATTHEHECK- no air was cleared. It is still a fact as to why he was cut. You really think your numbers are correct? Yeah ok. Besides, even if it were true, that has not a damn thing to do with my son. He will graduate from college with a great education. Seems to me, since I have now proven to you he has the scholarship, you are now looking for more ways to put HIM down. Get a life.
