This is something I plan on trying this weekend! Another way to try okra without the frying sounds like a winner.

Pick it, cut it up and throw it out the window. :bad:

Those people were called "slaves".

I AGEE......except it taste exactly like my former mother-in-law. She would have turned 101 on Feb. 21st and was the BEST Southern cook ever!!! When I went to Audrey's with my children and we got the okra the first thing they said was "this taste like Nanny's." NO bigger compliment could be given to Audrey's.

Another excellent way to cook okra is to cut it up and toss in 2/3 flour 1/3 corn meal mixture with cut up green tomatoes, squash and onion. Cook in hot grease until done. YUMMMMMM!!!!

Okra on the grill is quite tasty.

I just stuck wooden skewers in the end, wet them a little and put some salt and pepper on them. I was surprised at how good it was!!

I've never tried cooking it on the grill. Thanks for the idea!

Saute whole okra in a pan with a little butter until they are softened and start to brown. Yummy

My mom's specialty is cutting them up thin (less than 1/4"), covering with corn meal and shallow frying. They come out nice and crispy, not soggy like traditional fried okra.

I was very surprised at how good it was. Stayed crisp, but not hard or slimey (I refuse to eat boiled okra or put it in soup!!) and you could really just taste the okra--not all the meal and flour.

I will have to try some on the grill...that sounds great! I have seasoned and roasted whole pods in the oven, and that was delicious!
