I see this 20 pound challenge was done a while back. Is there anything similar going on now or is anyone interested in doing something similar? I did a local Biggest Loser Comp, put $30 in and did well. The money kept me from cheating. Of course I gained most of it back. I only have about 15 or 20 pounds to lose so it would be great to find people with similar goals to keep me motivated. Of course people with more to lose could be inspiring as well. Sooooo, is anybody interested in starting something up. I just don't want to eat like crazy just because I can hide under winter clothes.

So far I think, me, Cedarcrestpc, and Bizness are interested. Is that right? Anybody else wanna join in?

Me, me, me. I can start with 20, need to lose more but small steps are easier to complete.

I agree. Small steps are less overwhelming. For those of you that are interested so far. What do you find motivating? Money on the line? I.E. Winner gets the pot. Public humiliation? LOL. I.E. Posting weight loss or gain publicly on this board.
Any ideas?

MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! I need to loose 40, but 20 would soooo help me! I'm low on funds, so for me, public humiliation would definitely motivate me. :)

I'm not a fan of public humiliation. If everyone pitches in say $2.00, winner takes all??? What ya think?? Maybe LPPT could be the judge, weigher and holder of the funds. Think we could talk her in to it???

I'm game for anything. Maybe a percentage weightloss would make it more fair.

If we get enough people maybe I could donate a prize.

Not sure how the last one worked but we need a weigh in location (actual weight to be kept top secret :ninja: ), a weigh in date and a completion date. Someone make a calendar, K??

That would be nice!

I agree, It would have to be a percentage like they do on The Biggest Loser.
Pounds lost divided by starting weight=percentage lost, Right?

I really like what they do on Celebrity Fit Club. It's the Fit Factor, which takes fat loss/muscle gain into account but it is harder to determine due to fat calipers being a bit finicky.

It would be good to have an uninvolved third party to hold the funds. Also, I wouldn't want to eliminate somebody just because they can't or don't want to put money on the line. So maybe if some want to put in a few dollars they could be eligible to win the "pot" in the end but if they didn't put in anything, they could be the real winner and the runner up would be eligible for the prize money. Of course a donation or two would eliminate that issue, anyways.

What kind of time frame do you think? I'd kind of rather do a shorter time frame because I don't have too much too lose. Maybe 6 weeks? What do you think?

Six weeks sounds like a good time frame to me. Someone needs to contact LPPT and see if she'd help. She's a personal trainer so I think she's familiar with this stuff. :) We need to start ASAP, say next Monday?? Give it one more weekend to get ready. That would take us to a finish date of November 14. Just before the Thanksgiving Holiday. Sounds like a great time frame to me.

Shan, I'll put your $ in for you.

That sounds perfect to me! What do you think $2 or $3? Do you know LPPT? I have just started getting on here regularly and not even sure how to find a member to PM them.

I can setup a spreadsheet to track it all.

We don't want to show actual weights?

I don't mind showing mine because I think it will motivate me but I guess it could be optional.

I'm open to format changes here, will just be the first and final weigh-in? Or should we have only the first and final be official but let you post your own weight each week?

Are you going to weigh in each week? Is the money a one time payment or pay each week at weigh in? Is each person going to do their own diets?

I think just popping in the Healthy living forum and updating people with what you eat, the exercise you do kinda like keeping an online journal will help a lot.

I have lost 45 pounds so far I only have 5 left to meet my goal and then I will probably go down another 10 pounds.. keeping a journal and being held accountable by other members helps out a lot.

I think only 2 official weigh-in's the first and last day. Then the person updates it themselves each week if they want.

Just a single payment.

And it's up to each person how they want to try and lose the weight.

Of course those are just my thoughts, open to anything.

The spreadsheet is great, BTW. It leaves no room for confusion and I like the option of putting weight in weekly if wanted. I know that will be likely to keep me from waiting until the last week and doing a crash diet.

I need to tweak the formula a little so it will calculate automatically with the last weight entered by a person.

People meeting for a weigh-in could be extremely challenging, thoughts on letting people snap a pic of the number on the scale maybe?

I think 6 weeks is perfect. And Monday is a great start day. Get skinny before the holidays (just in time to add it back...LOL)

And thank you. I thought we were talking like $30 but if it's just a few $ I can handle that. :) You're awesome though!

Looks great! You can put me down for a yes and I'll go weigh myself to give a starting weight.

I think weekly weigh ins are important. If you're loosing, It gives you hope, if your gain or maintaining, you'll know you need to work harder. I'm doing the Special K challenge diet to jump start and then may move to South Beach Diet.

So are we just going to weigh ourselves at home and post it, or are y'all wanting to meet somewhere to weigh in?

As far as keeping up with weight loss during the 6 weeks, we could easily just weigh at home and post it, but for the initial and final weigh in, we should probably all use the same scale. I'm sure it would be nearly impossible to all meet at the same time/place so it would be great if we could get somebody to record it for us. I'm a member at Bodyplex, so I could meet/weigh there anytime on their scale. The only places I can think of with a scale are gyms. I didn't hear back from LPPT yet. Can anybody think of another 3rd party who might be willing and is uninvolved in case she doesn't want to? If we could meet at least one or two at a time together, we could just verify each others weight but I guess that wouldn't work to well for anybody who wants their weight private. Does the GNC by K-mart have one of those scales you put $.50 in to get your weight?

We could just bring a scale to the first and final weigh in. I have a Weight Watchers Digital scale that maintains BMI, weight loss/gain and is very portable that I would be willing to bring to the weigh ins. Then we could just meet at someones house, a park or a restaurant for the weigh in. Just an idea. :)

That works for me. We might have to arrange a couple weigh ins in order to accommodate differing schedules. I can probably arrange to be there any time of day.

after I loose these last 3 pounds I am gonna go for another 10 pounds.. so I will be keeping up with these topics.

Good luck everyone.. it is hard work but well worth the pay off..

CONGRATS!!!! Your weight loss is inspirational!!!

I got my scale at WalMart for $25. I would think they are more accurate than the non digital kinds but I have nothing to compare it to. It says I'm WAY to heavy so it must be accurate. LOL

I have this scale, which Consumer Reports rated highly for accuracy. Free shipping!

(I'm down 18 lbs. At least 5 more to go.)

Do we have a location for the weigh ins and deposits?? I can go anytime during the day Monday. Shan your scale sounds like a winner. It really shouldn't matter how "accurate" it is as long as we all use the same one. ;)
In history there are people who have had their clothes, food, housing and jobs provided to them.

Those people were called "slaves".

I don't think anybody has really come up with anything. I can pretty much meet anytime but It may just be too hard to work something like that out with others. Maybe we'll just have to do it on here as a motivational thing and not put in $2. Being held accountable and putting in pounds lost each week may be good enough. I know I sure wouldn't want to ever have to put in zero pounds lost. What do you think?

I am, did my weigh in this morning. Did stretches for about 15 min and walked about 20 min. :)

Anyone in that ins't on the list?

I'm starting today as well. I'll throw in a prize of $40 for the winner. As far as accountability, I'd vote for sending a picture of the readout on the scale.
