Yes there is middle school sports. They are not funded by the BOE at all, they are relying on booster clubs and parents. I may be wrong but I believe it is going to be a feeder program for the high schools.

That's correct, the high schools have taken over the programs and will have 6th-8th grade teams representing the high school. You still have to play for the school you are districted to though.
Which school are you looking for info about? Each school has different representatives to head the programs.

Right. There is no "one person" in charge. You will need to contact a PE teacher at the middle school or the high school coach. as I understand it.

That is our problem my son wants to play with the school he attends which we school choiced him to. He would like to play with his friends which makes sense, we will be selling our house before he goes on to high school and moving to the district we want him in. It doesn't make any sense to me to put him in a totally different school to play ball when he could
just play at the school he attends.

So are you gonna school choice the high school? Wherever he is currently school choiced to is where he needs to play, that's the rules they are wanting to abide by.

We plan on moving to the district we have him school choiced too before high school. So of course he wants to play for the school he attends. We may just have to take him out of county to play, I am so irritated with youth sports out here.

I don't see what there is to be irritated with, this is something new and it will be very good for the county. So you would rather go put them in a Rec league elsewhere? All 5 Paulding schools have joined the Cobb County Junior Basketball League with 35 other schools from Cobb, Cherokee, and Fulton. It's the top Middle school basketball league in the state with great competition. It's going to improve the play of basketball in the county tremendously than just playing other Paulding Schools like they have been doing in middle school.
I've already been told of the rules, wherever you are districted to or school choiced to is where you play, if you are school choiced to the district of the high school you are wanting to go with anyways then I don't see the problem. That's where you will play.

That is the same thing we were told to begin with, if he is school choiced there then he can play for that school, then we got a phone call last night telling us he can not play there because he is not in that district.

I am not trying to make anyone mad or cause a problem, I am just trying to understand why they would want him to play for the school he doesn't attend? I know we have to pay to play so maybe they could charge those of us from another school district a fee on top of registration or something?

I am very thankful for the parents that have stepped up and tried to do something, I am one of those parents who wants to help make this happen for the kids but from what I was told it is not the parents who are making this decision. I do know there are rules in rec ball as well, we have been playing rec ball for years.

What school are you supposed to go to and which school are you school choiced to?

For such short notice I think all of the county schools stepped up and got things rolling. I hope all sports will be handled as well as football has been. I even saw some signs out for 8th grade feeder team baseball which is new to me. There never has been middle school baseball as far as I know.
Do understand though that this is not rec ball. There is no guaranteed playing time. The best play. Period. End of discussion. Don't bother the coach with it. This is how it will be in high school though so best to get used to it now I guess.

I know this isn't rec ball, my son is very much looking forward to middle and high school ball. I have friends that play for the 7th grade Raiders and the LOVE IT!

Oh, I wasn't directing that at you, just a general observation. It's been a tough one for me to get used to. My son came from rec ball where he played offense and defense, very rarely sitting the bench. He's second string right now, but LOVES it! He gets to play several different positions which has been good for him to get out of his comfort zone. Dear old mom here of course thinks her baby should be a starter and I've had to come to terms with the fact that he's not. As long as he's happy though I'm learning to be happy
Best of luck with getting your son in the school you want him to play for. I really think the new programs are going to be much better than what we had.

These rules pertain to school sponsored sports and fall under ghsa rules. Don't believe the feeder teams are under ghsa.

I agree very, very much with your statement! I've always told my kids that sports are the icing on the cake of their life. Education comes first and foremost. But, football is so much fun and it never hurts to dream big
My middle school son told me he hopes to play through high school at least and then become an agent so he can let the other guys beat themselves up while he takes 40%! Pretty smart kid!

My son told me that about the basketball fee! Ouch! That is a lot. Football was $175 plus we had to buy cleats and practice pants. Also the $5 per person gate fee for our four every weekend. It was actually about $30 cheaper than when we played rec. ball though. But when my daughter played middle school basketball and soccer we didn't have to pay the fee. We just bought sweatshirts with their name/number and of course paid to get in the games. That's the only drawback I see in the programs. The cost will shut out some kids, but then they might work with families that have more than one child playing to get the costs down.
