A friend and co-worker from Cobb County PD died this week in Afghanistan. He was there working for a private security/training company. He had been the Military as well as being a former Cobb County Police Officer. He was married to a wonderful woman and they had 4 children. The death seems to be a natural death at this time. He was only 45 years old. His body is being flown to Dover Delaware for an autopsy.

(Pubby and Mods - I have googled and googled and there is no news report of this incident for me to reference at this time.)I will update when I get info.

His wife is a very strong woman. Below is her tribute to her husband. What a wonderful tribute to her husband!

I was only 18 years old when I met and fell in love with Lance... How blessed I am to have been his wife for almost 18 years. He loved our God, our country, our family, and our friends to a fault. God must have needed him more than we did, but I sure am heartbroken and will miss him dearly. I look forward to the da...y that I see him again and he takes me to see Jesus...

I graduated from high school with his wife. You are very true in saying that she is a strong person. Even with that, she could us all of our prayers. I can only imagine that the process of having to wait to get his body back here as well as finding out what caused his death is not an easy one.

She will definitely be in our prayers.

They called him the shark cause a shark will die unless it moves constantly. He was always on the prowl and hunting (doing his job) while at work. I did not know him personally but have heard many "Lance stories".

Someone said "RIP Lance larusso" it isn't larusso that passed. Different lance. Lance Warren.

Thanks Tow. Yeah, it's Lance Warren. Mr. Dis mentioned he saw it on Lance LaRusso's FB page.

Lance Warren's wife, Susan, updated her FB page. A friend and co worker for Lance's will be on the fight to Dover with his body. She will be in Dover tomorrow night to start the journey home with her beloved husband. I'm requesting prayers for Susan. TIA

PUMBA, I am in contact with an CCPD officer's. Two police officers are going with her now to the airport. She is going to call them to try and get info on when they will be bringing the body home.

The info I have now is that it is probably going to be Wednesday and his body will be brought in via Hartsfield.

My step-mom called and told me about Lance the morning he passed away. So, so sad. :( My dad has been with CCPD for almost 23 years and knew Lance well. Once you're in that long, everybody is like family. Some of the officers were planning on having a bonfire last Friday, but I didn't find out about it in time.

I knew him well…he was a brother to me. We started out as fellow police officers at CCPD and grew into friends. When I policed with him - oh the fun we had. We saw some of the strangest things and of course caught a lot of bad people at the same time.

Lance Stories! Yep, I have them too.

Once on Powder Springs Road (where the Ingles was near E-W connector) a faint voice came over the police radio – on the talk around channel. He asked for a 59 (meet with an officer) for some 39 (information). Half way there – the Sgt came on the radio and asked if he was okay? Lance piped up – "10:4. I just want to meet with my beat partner".

When I arrived, his car was off; no lights were on; no running engine – total darkness. I quietly walked up – asked what he saw and he pointed to the gas gauge…"I ran out. I need gas. Can you go get me some gas.". He made me swore never to tell. Sorry, ole friend!

I dubbed him Shark simply because he floats around until he found something worth chasing. At times the rest of us were on the way to the police precinct at the end of the day and Lance would call in a chase or simply one in custody right at 06:30. He called me Stringray.

He put his family first. Always! I never knew such an honest hard working guy and one that would run to help you whenever or wherever you needed him.

Outside of police work – we went sky diving, cave dwellings, and yes – practice Karate together. I still have his picture when he held my son for the first time (who was 2 months old then …and now is 12 years old).

I'll miss him….there is no doubt about that! He was my son's god father. I recently pulled the picture out from my family album and realized again what a great father he would be and that he was.

As for Susan…well I knew her before Lance and she even dated. Back when she worked the CCSO Jail. My heart goes out to her…..But Jesus – I ask - please lend this wonderful child a hand. She's going to need it. Even with the strength of many who pray for her during this time of sadness…we know there is nothing like your hand during this time of sadness.

I know Lance worked some at Zone 1. I am thinking he worked at Zone 2 also.

My husband is a retired police officer. My husband and his rookie were backing Lance up on a traffic stop on Barrett Parkway between Dallas Highway and 41. They pulled up behind Lance's patrol car. My husband was kinda of blinded by the blue lights when he stepped out of his patrol vehicle. The rookie went up to the vehicle and then they couldn't find my husband. Lance and the rookie came back with guns drawn thinking a bad guy had ambushed my husband. My husband fell in a hole he couldn't see and broke his ankle. There were some laughes about the incident after the fact, but that is Lance protecting his fellow officers.

I worked with Susan at the SO for many years and had just recently connected with her on FB. But for the sake of me I could not place a face with a name (old age I guess kicking in) until I saw a picture of her in the old jail intake in the "Top of Cobb".

My heart has been broken since hearing the news on Friday.

Yep, that is where I met Susan. I was riding with a CCPD officer and we took one to intake. She was this smart-arse girl who took no crap off of anyone. After that meeting she treated me like she had known me forever every time we saw each other. I have been honored to call her and Lance my friends.

Yesterday on her FB page she stated that she was leaving Dover with a box of Lance's things. She had not opened it yet, but was made to by the security at the airport because Lance's laptop was in the box. She was so happy that some of Lance's friends were with her. She said she was missing Lance very much, but that God is getting her thru it all. She missed her babies at home.

(I was told the autopsy would be today, so I am assuming his body is still in Dover) PUMBA and his group have been in contact with a CCPD officer about doing an escort for them. I hope it all works out where they can do this. Thanks PUMBA!
