I just can't bear it any longer, folks.

Please stop using "seen" in any form other than the participle, that is, "I HAD seen her yesterday when ...".

Also, "went" is NOT a participle. "She had went." should be "She had GONE."

OI.

Learn to love participles and their proper use.

While we're on the subject of grammar, doesn't anybody use the subjunctive mood anymore?

One can only take so much!

Why is it that self-improvement is not acceptable? I appreciate it when people point out mistakes so I can learn from those mistakes. When it comes to grammar, people just do not want to take the time to improve their skills. The Ma and Pa Kettle days are over, folks. Bookstores and the internet are overflowing with grammar instruction.

Using bad grammar is akin to having bad teeth. You cringe when the offending party speaks. There. I said it! :yahoo:

Well kudos to you, I feel your pain, but.....its against the rules to criticize your fellow posters on grammar to make them feel inferior from posting because of it. BUT, with some folks it just typos, others, they really dont know, and on this board, its not our job (on the open board at least) to embarrass them and point it out, better suited for a pm if you feel that strongly. I myself notice every error but swallow it and go on, just like I dont take the time to add the apostrophe's where they are needed and they get underlined in a red line, lol

I figured a post on grammar would serve as a litmus test. Posts on grammar tend to bring some life to the party. This place has been so dull for the past month or so. Is anybody out there? Hello?

BTW, I haven't criticized any particular poster in this topic. The post is just a general observation.

Let me give a little background on that rule by way of clarification.

It is against the rules to point out the grammatical shortcomings of specific individual posters as a form of personal attack - as I have seen done in the past.

That said, it is perfectly allowable and appropriate to discuss, in general terms (no specific posters mentioned or in close proximity) proper grammar and English usage.

It is through such subtle instruction that people become better writers and ultimately more educated. Education, I might add, does translate into better jobs and more money and I think most of us would appreciate those benefits.

PS: I think this should be instructive to the mods as well.

PPS: If it were aimed at any particular person, it might be handled differently. I know some folks are better at grammar, spelling, typing, etc. than others and lets always remember to give those folks a breck :)

But, with that as the understanding, it will do us all good to write better and that is the purpose of this topic - not belittling others. (Mikey, for one, is almost certain not to do such a despicable thing.)

meh. i tend to type the same way that i speak. unpretentious. it doesn't make me feel smarter or better than anyone else to know that i can correctly conjugate verbs. and it doesn't make me feel ignorant when i have an unintentional typo, or an intention misspelling to convey a certain dialect.

life is shawt folks, and yo make of it what you wish. it saddens me that so many folk get hung up on what someone else is typing, not because their content is objectionable, but because they are less edumacated and/or diligent with their written words.
