Yes I see it on everyone's post, but mine. I am guessing that is where you vote positive or negative. I don't see my or anyone else reputation. Is that the way it's supposed to be? Actually I don't care.

yes, that's where you hand out ratings. no, you can't vote on your own post, that's why you can't see it there.
to see other people's reputations, you'll have to click their profile. it'll be under their photo and info.
to see your reputation, visit your profile.

Just for clarity -

There is a rating button on each post - you can rate it + or -.

Those ratings accumulate from posts all over pcom into a "reputation" for the person who wrote the post. So votes on the posts end up creating a label that shows on a pcommer's profile.

The post ratings are less problematic, in my view. You are presmably evaluting content. It's the reputation badges that I question.

If we were all sitting in Pat's living room and he made us wear red or green hats based on the secret votes of the others in the room, who wouldn't find that a little creepy?

If I'm the only one, so be it. I raised my question and will see what the outcome of the "experiment" is, then respond as I see fit.

Best,
JMT

I just noticed something...I've got a -6 as a reputation...LMAO...So quite honestly...if this "rep" thing is based on poor threads started..then technically I shouldn't be at a negative 6 because I don't post mean and nasty stuff...looks like someone has targeted me...which is what Pubby did NOT want.... hmmmm.

So did this new ratings system not make it through the day? Out of curiosity I went to check mine on my profile and it was not there. I checked a few others that had made reference to their numbers and did not see theirs either. Did I miss something? (now that is not hard LOL but I was just wondering)

It's gone. Some decided to abuse it to tear down character of some people. I believe the ratings for the posts would work better than the abuse. I believe I broke the record for the most "negatives" in one day.

I just read where Pubby did that. I think it was a wise decision. I hate that you had so many negatives, but was afraid that would happen to some. Rating a particular post I think is fine, but other then that it gets way too personal.

Actually, it is still in place.

I checked the setup and it was possible to make the aggregate points invisible thus hiding the aspect of reputation that led those with egos and agendas to see what they could do to manipulate and control things.

So now the votes appear in the actual post that the person thinks is superior or not and the points don't accumulate to stroke the ego of anyone (or hurt their feelings either.) It was obvious that there were some who are concerned about such things.

The purpose is to allow folks to rate topics and in essence show their support for particular posts that illuminate, educate or entertain. Conversely, they allow members to vote shallow, stupid, dense, dumb and silly topics to carry with them a negative rating.

But because they aren't ascribed to the individual - the concerns which swirled around ego are mostly avoided.

I see - votes... in this thread that were not here .. so is this still working?

the votes work for the post. but don't show up as a total in the members profile. cause so many people cried about making enough enemies to earn a bad reputation.

I'm pretty much in agreement with all the responding posts to the original topic, posted by Pubby. This is something that could very well be "abused."

If a post or topic is inappropiate, then reporting it to the Moderators, is much more appropiate. The Moderators are much more likely to be in a neutral position to decide, whether to leave the post or topic "as it is," "remove it," or make it invisable.

Really don't want to see things turn ugly, in the sense of someone "thinking to themselves.....hey, I don't like this person, so I'll give them a negative," even though it doesn't have anything to do with the topic / post.

Also, I can see this as being vindictive towards P.com members who do a lot of good in the community, as well as toward business members....bascially "ganging up" on these people, for no valid reason.....we all know how "personality conflicts" can be.

Ditto....I agree....

buncha freakin' crybabies who can't handle it when the chicken come home to roost.

Now NC, that is not true. There are those on here that will do anything to tanish a person's character no matter what they say on this site. I can handle it but at the same time, some people who come here that are new may look at a person's "bad" reputation and form an opinion without even knowing the poster. There are those on here who act like they are in grade school and want to see who wins popularity contests whether they deserve it or not.

I don't really care if people like me or not. I am who I am. Either it accepted or it is not. I don't lose any sleep over it but I also feel that tearing down a person's character based on a personal vendetta, a hate-fest is going a bit far. I am sure others feel the same way. I have many friends outside of Pcom, and some on here and many of those knoe me that is all that matters to me. I am strong standing on some things in my life and that is what some like to bash on.

During this experiment, I did not issue any (-) on anyone. :)
