This is awesome! I hoave talked to quite a few people who have sat through IEP meetings and didn't have much of an idea what was being talked about or what is in their child's IEP. I have even talked to some parents who usually do not attend their child's IEP meetings because they said they felt like they didn't know most of what was being discussed. I hope some people are able to take advantage of this service if they need it.

I am sorry for being stupid about this but are you testing students who are behind and may need further tutoring or only offering an assistance to explain one's IEP information in more detail?

We are making an effort to educate parents on all kinds of issues. We will be offering a series of FREE workshops through Paulding County's Navigator Team that will teach all about parent's rights.... how to write IEP goals based on the need of the child... navigating the system... and so much more. These will start after the first of the new year.


On the first Thurs. night in November, the Paulding Count Navigator Team will be offering another FREE workshop on Special Needs Wills & Trust. More information will be coming in the weeks ahead... but mark your calendars now!

This assistance is to help parents know what the IEP says... determine if appropriate services are being offered... and to make suggestions if needed. Stay tune ... I'm about to announce a tutoring program!!!

If you get overwhelmed with IEPs and need a hand, give me a shout. You would be disgusted with the IEPs I got this year.....unclear goals, no clear accommedations, obvious "cut and paste" goals (he/she...two student's names in IEP from bad paste job), LRE for TEACHER not STUDENT....

I've already invested several hours this week talking to parents and trying to make them right, but if parents know UP FRONT then THEY can advocate for their child instead of deferring to the "expertise" of the teacher.

Sorry to hear about this, but unfortunately... not surprised! I will remember you! Yes, I will be offering advocacy services... already started! A lot of what I do is "ghost writing"... which is working with parents to help prepare them for meetings and reviewing IEP's to make sure parents understand what's in them. I think I am objective though in most circumstances... I've been on both sides of the table and try to bring balance. It's when I KNOW that there are issues that haven't been addressed and the "professionals" know better that I get ill....
