A new book on Billy Graham is less flattering than some past works, reports Cecile S. Holmes of Religion News Service.

The book, "The Legacy of Billy Graham," consists of essays by 14 scholars.

According to Holmes, it deals with "Graham's political influence, his relationships with Richard Nixon and other American presidents, his views on women, sexual ethics and poverty, and the content and style of his preaching."

In particular, it seems to fault him for his relationship with Richard Nixon.

Michael G. Long, the book's editor, says Graham was "shockingly deceptive when he told us that his relationship with Richard Nixon was primarily spiritual."

Long has listened to Nixon's White House tapes and says that Graham and Nixon rarely discussed spiritual matters in the Oval Office.

In 2002, Graham apologized when the tapes revealed him telling Nixon that Jews has a "stranglehold" on the country.

"Great men wake up to slay dragons. Most are content to chase lizards. Therein lies the difference. Live Brave."
