According to the Washington Post article, American Catholic colleges had better get ready for an old fashioned paddling when the Pope visits next month. In fact, Benedict has "requested" meetings with 200 leaders from various Catholic schools.

"The gathering," write Jacqueline L. Salmon and Michelle Boorstein of The Post, "will come amid debate over teachings and campus activities that bishops have slammed as violating Catholic doctrine: a rally by pro-aboortzion rights Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton at St. Mary's University in San Antonio; a Georgetown University theologian's questioning whether Jesus offers the only road to salvation; and a performance of 'The Vagina Monologues' at the University of Notre Dame."

We all know that Benedict is a hard-liner of earlier orthodoxy. He has previously said that Catholic universities must bow to Catholic "truth." Such comments worry those who feel that one mission of any university is to foster in students an ability to think critically, even if that means questioning widely held assumptions.

Do you think maybe the Pope will put some of those folks on the rack for their heresy? Maybe boil them in oil? Draw and quarter?

It has happened before, you know smile.gif

And it can happen again. In any land. Any sect. Just let a few circumstances line up right . . . far right, of course.
