I didn't know you could do that!

I found a few packages on tucows.com - I'll try a few and see if I get anywhere....

You should be able to copy from the PDF (if allowed) and then paste (text) ... Graphics may be a bit more difficult but not impossible.

I've cut and pasted before - but this file must be locked - I can select an area and <ctrl> c and then <ctrl> v, but nothing is pasted.

On linux, you could get pdftotext to dump out the text... and pdfimages to get the
pictures, move the files to your Windows machine and create a new doc that way.

OR, in Windows, you could:

1) Open the file, zoom it to 100%
2) Open a new Word Document
3) ALT-printscreen
4) Open MS Paint or your favorite editor
5) Paste as new image
6) Select and copy 'just' the page, omitting all the other junk
7) Paste into word doc.
8) Lather, rinse, and repeat steps 3-7 for all remaining pdf pages
9) Save/close your new word doc (All images, and not searchable, I know... but a word doc, nonetheless smile.gif )

Even Select All will only select text in PDF docs. If they convert the text into a picture, it won't be copyable without software.

http://www.nuance.com/pdfconverter/standard/ is $50 if you can't find a shareware product.

Locking the page and disallowying copying is a security feature that the publisher of the document who obviously is not eager to have his precious text duplicated. One program that does 'import' pdfs is Corel Draw ... It has the ability to open a document basically a page at a time and you can save it in a variety of formats. I've not had good luck opening complex multi-page documents with this but a typical one-page flyer does well. I've not tried opening a 'locked' document with it and suspect that Adobe may have a switch inside the pdf that would prevent that. A screen capture where you're taking and turning the whole page into a graphic probably won't work unless you've got a good scanner to text package.I guess the point is that when the publisher of the document did that, they did it for a reason ...which was to thwart copying of the document. Whether that was a good decision or not is whole other discussion and would involve the actual content of the document.pubbyLocking the page and disallowying copying is a security feature that the publisher of the document who obviously is not eager to have his precious text duplicated. I paid for the document - I just want to move the content into an engine that is better for my intended use.

I do see that the document is protected from everything but printing.

I have used this before.

You can do (3) pages for free, then you have to buy the software.

If you only have one page this should work.

Then you could print it to the Microsoft Document Image Writer, save it as a tiff or mdi, and
get one of the free/cheap OCR programs that will open it and allow you to save it as a doc.

Have you asked the provider if they offer it in a doc?
Just making sure. Obviously that'd be easiest smile.gif

If all else fails you could send it to me and I will convert it to a jpeg for you. I believe Photoshop lets me do that.

Adobe Acrobat Pro will allow you to do that I think. I have it if you want me to try.

Foxit Reader can convert a PDF into a text file.

http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php

It opens PDFs much faster than Adobe Acrobat reader, but I'm not sure if the free version can do it. smile.gif

There are several free OCR's out there. Do the print screen for each page, then use an OCR to convert it to text. You might need to proof read it though,
I fantasize about my dogs having jobs. I pretend that both of them are window cleaners and their kennel is their first starter home. I think the bigger dog is trying to bump off the smaller dog so he can have the kennel to himself. I know I have a problem, but don't animals have to earn a living too?

Dogs may not be our whole lives, but they make our lives whole.

A dog is not "almost human" and I know of no greater insult to the canine race than to describe it as such.

The more I see of humans, the more I admire dogs.

He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader.
He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.

The dog is a gentleman, I hope to go to his heaven, not man's.
